Headaches can become severe and disabling. The normal occasional headache can commonly occur. However, when a person suffers with longer lasting headaches of severe intensity they should be checked out by a neurologist. Sometimes, headaches can be a symptom of something else such as a fever or tension.
Migraine Headaches are often intense and longer lasting. They can be accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light, vertigo, distorted vision, etc. Usually, with migraine headaches pain occurs on one side of the head and gradually increases in intensity from a dull ache into a throbbing pain. These types of headaches can last from a few hours up to a week or so. Some people suffer from migraine headaches more frequently than others and it could interfere with their ability to be employed on a sustained basis.
Cluster Headaches are much more severe and intense than a migraine headache. They can occur a few times on a daily basis for a period of time. Cluster headaches can interrupt one's nightly sleep pattern as well as take place during the daytime. The pain is usually located behind one eye but can radiate to the temple or face.
Sinus Headaches involve constant pain in the forehead or bridge of the nose and a feeling of pressure around the forehead or eyes. This may be accompanied by symptoms of nasal congestion.
Treatment can include rest and medication.
It is important that your treating doctors note your symptoms as a part of your treatment record. It is usually a good idea to prepare a list of your symptoms and remind your doctor of the complete list of symptoms which you are experiencing.
